Kent historic rill garden

The brief was to create a garden with an aged feel and a feeling of ‘Patina’ from the offset. We visited Sissinghurst amongst other gardens and this was firmly in mind during concept stages.

Design

Working alongside our strategic partner Nina Baxter, the new garden design was to incorporate multiple water features and a ‘Rill’, fed from a water blade with a central lily pond and aquatic planting palette. The installation was to include materials that looked and felt aged in appearance and that were in keeping with this mock Tudor property.

Installation process

The garden had to be installed with ultra-precision, the infrastructure of water features required lining with liquid membrane over 16 continuous hours to guarantee effective water proofing. The Garden was installed with Limestone paving including a bespoke Limestone circle to form the lily pond surround. Limestone copings were fitted to the edges of each rill with semi-bonded shingle pathways. A Covered cooking area was created for outdoor dining, with an automated irrigation system and outdoor lighting fitted throughout the garden.
